Producing a track from scratch
Vhyce presents a new Home of Sound masterclass “Building an entire track in Ableton”. Vhyce shows how he builds his tracks, from recording, crafting synths to building up a complete track
City streets left abandoned, desolate factories and traffic lights aimlessly switching from red to green without a single car in sight to see them change. These are just some of the haunting images that characterize what the post-industrial city of La Louviere looks like.
Vhyce, the Portuguese-Italian breed steadily worked his way up to a noteworthy musical profile. Inspired by the desolation in these suburbs, or by the boredom, he grew into a self-taught producer.
He released music on Catz N’ Dogz ‘Pets Recordings’, Waze & Odyssey ‘Street Tracks’, Monki ‘&Friends’, Alex Niggemann ‘Aeon’ that has been supported by the likes of Pete Tong, Ame, Skream, Kim Ann Foxman, DJ Harvey and played on BBC radio 1, KCRW, Rinse FM.
2023 will see Vhyce launch his label Saint-Vaast recordings - named after his city - as well as release more music on Aeon, Pets and Correspondant.
The masterclass is divided in the following chapters
- Intro
- Using field recordings as ambience
- Bass and Synths Foundation
- Drums in the box
- Recording percussions
- Additional synths and arps
- Hi-hats and recorded tambourine
- Creating movement with synths
- Vocals
- Arrangement and additional elements
- Breakdown of ‘ Vhyce - Personal Numbness’
Throughout the course, the artist uses mostly Ableton and built-in instruments and effects, and some external VSTs. The explanations are structured in a way that principles are usable by any producers even by those who don’t possess the same VSTs.
The masterclass caters to beginner to intermediate producers. The material is intended to give practical tools for producing an effective track with Ableton. And the artist shows his actual work with a real track that has been widely acclaimed.
